NK District Council will commence a consultation on the application of special expenses in relation to the maintenance of closed churchyards on 1 September 2026 which will close on 19 October.
The Council currently incurs costs associated with maintaining a number of closed churchyards where responsibility has transferred to North Kesteven. We are reviewing how these costs are funded and will be consulting on these being treated as special expenses, meaning that the costs would be charged only to those areas that receive the service rather than being met by council taxpayers across the entire district.
The consultation will provide further information on:
- The statutory basis for special expenses;
- The closed churchyards affected;
- The financial implications of the proposal;
- How any special expense arrangements would operate; and
- The potential impact on local taxpayers.
Background and further information can be found using the link below.
Residents or groups are invited to participate.
The survey can be accessed using the link below only once the consultation is live on Tuesday 1 September.
